Could he understand the "English"
construction signs? An interpreter was needed to understand the charges: Take note, that this truck driver, while in court, needed an interpreter in order to understand the charges being filed against him. Mr. Filho does not speak English very well, or possibly at all. --Is it safe to assume that he couldn't read or understand the orange construction signs along I-15? This story quite possibly could be a primary example to the dangers that emerge from breaking down our English language here in America. 4 people lost their lives, and it quite possibly could be the cause of allowing too many languages on our highways. Las Vegas is home to almost daily "hit & runs." One can only speculate the reasons for these crimes. But, we can consider a few facts as well. Las Vegas has a growing population of Hispanics - roughly 24%. Of that 24%, a great deal are suspected to be Illegal Aliens. Keep in mind that Las Vegas is 70% of Nevada. I do not know Mr. Filho's citizenship status, but I would speculate that in the time it takes to become a naturalized citizen here in America, on average 4 to 16 years and more, that person SHOULD AT LEAST be able to read orange construction signs, especially if he's driving big rigs.
